Closing Ceremony for Phase 1 of the SHCC Project
On December 12, 2025, we held the closing ceremony for Phase 1 of the School Health Development Project for All Cambodian Children (SHCC).
We were greatly honored that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport H.E. Dr. Han Chun Naron presided over the ceremony and delivered remarks.
This project will conclude in December 2025 as an initiative of Tokyo Gakugei University. The ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport; the management team of Teacher Education College (TEC) in Phnom Penh and Battambang; School Health lecturers from those TECs; and guests from NGOs and other organizations, all of whom made time to attend despite their busy year-end schedules. Also in attendance from Japan were Executive Director Mr. Arikawa of The Nippon Foundation, representatives from Tokyo Gakugei University, and members of the SHCC Japan Office, with whom we have worked closely for over five years.
In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport H.E. Dr. Han Chun Naron highlighted the importance of health education as follows:
“The Royal Government of Cambodia has set a vision to become an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050. This will be achieved through strategic human resource development focused on quality, productivity, and robust health. In this context, the promotion of school health is an essential element for ensuring high-quality learning and improving graduation rates.
Health is a core factor determining students’ academic success and forms the foundation for sustainable national and social development.”
Starting in January 2026, the School HealthTraining and Ecohealth Promotion Foundation (STEP), a general incorporated foundation, will take over Phase 2 activities of the SHCC project, continuing to receive funding from The Nippon Foundation. In Phase 2, we will continue to advance projects for the health of Cambodian children in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and TECs.
