The 3rd School Health Lecturer Training Session

From July 13 to 16, 2026, we held a four-day training program at the Phnom Penh Teacher Education College (PTEC) and the Battambang Teacher Education College (BTEC).

On Day1, at PTEC Professor Dr. Nakamura Sadako (Jumonji University) gave a lecture on nutrition. Since this is a topic of great interest, it was impressive to see how intently the faculty members and teachers from the PTEC attached schools listened to the lecture.

On Day2, Professor Saito Chikage (Saitama University) conducted a Basic Life Support (BLS) training session and gave a lecture on health management. Student teachers from PTEC, along with School Health lecturers and health teachers from PTEC attached schools, participated in the BLS training. They learned how to provide first aid in an emergency (though we hope such situations never occur). During the explanation of AEDs, we heard comments such as, “Although AEDs are not yet widely available in Cambodia, we want to know how to use them for the future.” As an organization promoting school health projects, we also hope to see the widespread adoption of AEDs in Cambodia.

On Day3, we held a training session at BTEC. In the morning, following the opening ceremony, School Health Lecturers—led by PTEC’s Ms. Hour Khim—conducted BLS (Basic Life Support) training for student teachers at BTEC, as well as School Health lecturers and health teachers from BTEC attached schools. We feel that by teaching others what we had learned from the Japanese professor, we were able to further strengthen our own knowledge and skills.

On Day4, all School Health lecturers worked together to review the content of the “School Health Glossary” currently being compiled by STEP. The School Health lecturers are currently working on translating the school health textbook for the Lower Secondary specialized school health course into Khmer. When translating, the choice of words is extremely important. Everyone approached the task with great seriousness, carefully considering each and every word.

We were able to hold this training session in both Phnom Penh and Battambang, making the four days very fulfilling. There is only one more training session left in the 2026 program.
