12th School Health Training Session Held
A three-day training session for school health instructors was held from June 19th. On the first day, activities included a mock lesson on mental health, a demonstration of a health class utilizing picture-story shows, and instruction on using the textbook guide accompanying the school health textbook for teacher training universities.
The mock lessons, introduced starting with the 10th session, provide an excellent opportunity for instructors to review each other’s lessons and discuss teaching material utilization. Amidst this, the new tool of picture-story shows is also drawing attention. Although Professor Asakura, the project leader, participated online from Japan this time, everyone engaged earnestly with the screen.
On the second day, participants challenged themselves to present health education lessons utilizing the picture-story shows practiced on the first day. This was followed by a discussion on the usefulness of picture-story-book-based health lessons. A mock lesson on physical measurements was also conducted, with participants acting as students. The instructors’ opening remark, “Sorry for treating you like children,” drew big laughs. The training was both serious and relaxed. Finally, via Zoom connection with Japan, Professor Hirofumi Monobe from Yokohama National University gave a lecture on “Lesson Study.” A research lesson on health education is also planned for August at a Cambodian teacher training university.
On the third day, we took a break from indoor study for a field study visit to Ms. LYLY KAMEDA’s factory. The participating teacher training university instructors were deeply impressed to see that food is exported to the world from a factory located in Cambodia, where food safety and hygiene management are thoroughly implemented and which holds world-standard certifications. We hope to plan more field studies in the future where we can learn about health and wellness, and about Cambodia. Thank you very much, Ms. LYLY KAMEDA.
